The Scrum Master is the process coach within a cross-functional Scrum Team and is responsible for the team’ s adherence to the Agile values and principles and the Scrum methodology. As a member of the team, the Scrum Master models the values and principles and encourages self-organization within the team. The Scrum Master intentionally has no managerial authority, but acts as a servant leader within the team to help the team work to the best of its ability by removing impediments and driving process improvements. The Scrum Master also owns the release burndown reports used to notify the rest of the organization about the progress the team is making toward the solution they are building. 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 
  1. Strongly serving and supporting the Product Owner and Development Team in their quest to do everything possible to delight customers 
  2. Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style and leading by example. This person should personify Scrum and Agile. 
  3. Spearhead change throughout the organization to maximize benefit of Agile practices 
  4. Guiding and coaching the Scrum Team on how to get the most out of self-organization 
  5. Guiding the Scrum Team to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks 
  6. Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization 
  7. Removing impediments or, when appropriate, guiding the team to remove impediments effectively 
  8. Protecting the Scrum team from outside distractions, including other work assignments 
  9. Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem solving 
  10. Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work 
  11. Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution 
  12. Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information 
  13. Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to refining (aka grooming)  and managing the product backlog 
  14. Keep up with industry experience in Agile/Scrum and related concepts (DevOps, Lean Startup, etc.) 

 

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor’ s Degree in Business/Technology or related field. 
  2. Evidence of proactively pursuing Agile or Scrum knowledge or experience 
  3. Experience with or knowledge of Agile and Scrum 
  4. Certification preferred— CSM, CSP, PMI-ACP, or PSM
