Release manager role:

Owns release process for digital projects, including:
-Running release planning sessions where teams get together to collaborate on what stories/features are planned for the upcoming release, discuss risks / dependencies
-Managing the release plan to ensure all tasks are completed on time. The plan is the team' s guide to execution, and allows for everyone to understand / track the steps required to execute a release.
-Managing environment dependencies - ensuring that the right environments are available as expected for release support, per the documented schedule
-Running daily stand-ups during the 2 weeks prior to any release to understand if there are any blockers / critical issues, sending out notes post all stand-ups to communicate status, setting up follow-ups to
-Communication - the key to success in this role is to be an excellent communicator. Expected to send out notes with action items/ follow-ups post every meeting. Communicate out any changes to the release schedule, build schedule, shifts in release plans, etc.  Clear, consistent communication across all levels of the organization is a must.
-Multi-tasking - during the 2 weeks before every release, there will be a multitude of activities going on. Expectation is that the release manager takes ownership of open issues, and assigns owners or jumps into action if needed. Can escalate issues appropriately to the Sr. Manager of Release/Portfollio Mgmt. / Leadership, never says " that' s not my job:, b/c this role is the glue that holds together the variety of working teams that need to communicate / collaborate during a release. Passion and teamwork are required to keep the release group motivated and continuing to execute during the early hours of a release morning,
-Release tools - need to have an understanding of Jira and the wiki, which enables the release manager and team to easily view the release plan, release issues, release retros, the go / no-go info, and who will be on / accountable for each release.
-Knowledge of a digital ecommerce operation team' s process would be beneficial. Need to be a quick learner, b/c understanding of how this digital ecommerce team operates is another key to success.
-Verbal and written communication skills need to be superb
-4 year college degree in Project Mgmt or technical background required. 3-5 years minimum of working as a release manager or project/program manager in a retail ecommerce setting preferred. Scrum Master Certification preferred, but not required.
